sVo Showdown 136

The fallout from the Jackpot 2022 PPV as a sVo legend makes his first appearance on Showdown in eleven years!

sVo Sunday Night Showdown 136
Live on the HOTv Network on PWA:TV
Goodfellas Casino Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada
11th September 2022

After the intro for the PWA, the entrance video package for Sunday Night Showdown begins, accompanied by the theme song of ‘Showdown’ by Pendulum as highlights of past action from 2013 to present day are sped up, showing the likes of Bobby Dean, Roscoe Shame, Night, Jay Wildman, Cody Williams & Nathan Paradine. As the video package finally comes to an end with an extended look at the ‘Sunday Night Showdown’ logo, the camera cuts to an exterior shot of the Goodfellas Casino Arena, in the heart of the Las Vegas strip, before cutting to a live shot of inside the arena. The camera pans around the sold-out crowd, most of them on their feet and screaming loudly whilst trying to get their homemade sign shown in front of the camera. The cameras finally head over to the commentary table, where Julian Fiasco and Jeremiah Sloan welcome the fans watching on the HOTv network on PWA:TV to the broadcast and begin to break down some of the action that will take place on tonight’s show!

RINGSIDE
I’m Dreaming

The crowd buzzes in anticipation as the arena lights cut completely out. Almost as soon as they are extinguished a voice is heard over the PA.

A whisper…

“I’m dreaming…”

The words “I’m dreaming…” float onto the tron and distant chords of Deftones’ “Knife Party” begins to play over the arena as the fans at Goodfellas blow the roof off with a huge pop.

As the song builds in intensity the words on the screen are replaced by one:

A name.

” N I G H T “

The roaring of the crowd sustains as a Japanese man in a slim fitted black suit with a matching tie and shirt. His slightly greying hair tied back in a wild ponytail and his 5 o’clock shadow also hints at some greying hairs. He is the former sVo Champion and Hall of Famer, Night.

Night stands at the top of the entrance ramp – motionless for a moment, his stance elegant and mysterious. As the music swirls away, Night looks around the chanting arena a faint and somewhat uncharacteristic smile etched on his face. Still taking in the crowd response he makes his way to the ring, even slapping hands with a few fans along the way drawing some shocked reactions.

Wiping his feet on the apron, he looks around the arena, pumping his fist in the air to a huge pop and climbing between the middle and top ropes before crossing to the far side of the ring, climbing to the middle turnbuckle and raising his arms to the crowd. He does the same to the other three corners as the crowd starts to chant:

Crowd: “WELCOME BACK! WELCOME BACK! WELCOME BACK! WELCOME BACK! WELCOME BACK!”

The arena lights return as Night is handed a microphone by a ring attendant. He smiles, looks around the still chanting crowd and raises the microphone to his mouth.

Night: “IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK!”

The crowd roars. He smiles and raises his arms before continuing.

Night: “Who would have guessed that I’d be standing in this ring talking to all of you in 2022?!? Eleven years… it’s been eleven years since I last competed in an sVo ring. Eleven years since I was last the sVo Champion. Eleven years since I last wrestled in front of all of you!”

The crowd pops. Night continues, his lightly accented English slowing to a more somber, slower pace.

Night: “So why, after eleven years, why now? I’ve had people asking me that. Wondering where I was and why I didn’t come back earlier when the sVo first resurfaced. And the truth is… I had moved on. I was still young, at my physical prime and hungry to compete. After the sVo closed it’s doors I planned to take a little break. I went back to Japan, I trained, I relaxed, I lived. Master Kimura –“

He pauses, his voice tensing for a brief moment leading Night to clear his throat.

Night: “– Sensei returned to his dojo and it wasn’t long until he asked me to help him training. I was honored to do so. I always loved working with him and he always had so much to teach. He put more and more of the responsibility of running the school on me and I was happy to oblige, he had done so much for me. Eventually he told me his reasoning for leaving so much of the management of the dojo and the training of the students to me… he was sick –“

Night’s voice thickens with emotion. The crowd is silent.

Night: “– His final request of me was that I would promise to continue the legacy of the KIMURA Dojo…”

Night nods his head, the crowd still silent but starting to clap in honor of Master Kimura.

Night: “… and I’ve kept that promise, or so I thought. I dedicated myself to running the dojo and training the finest of the next generation of professional wrestlers! And we did. I am so proud of the wrestlers to have come through the Dojo these past few years and in each one I see my Sensei’s legacy.”

Night clears his throat, his lips tight. He nods in acknowledgement and listens as the crowd clap for his mentor and friend. He allows himself a moment, seeming to take comfort from the crowd’s response before continuing renewed.

Night: “Six months ago we took in our newest class. At the end of our first week of training the students were looking around the dojo at photos of the history of KIMURA Dojo and some of its students’ finest moments. One young student pointed towards my two sVo Championships and asked me ‘Sensei, why is there an empty spot next to your two championships?'”

Night grins, some of the crowd start to buzz at the mention of the sVo Championship from the Hall of Famer.

Night: “I spent most of my time watching the rings and cleaning the mats – I rarely glanced towards my own photos and championships, hung on display. I had forgotten; Master Kimura left a blank spot and would always joke with me that it was for my third sVo Championship.”

The noise from the crowd starts intensifying.

Night: “As I was thinking back on this later, I realized that even though I dedicated myself to running KIMURA Dojo and ensuring that we continued to produce some of the finest wrestlers trained in Japan that I was still not truly fulfilling my Sensei’s vision. I had become so blinded by BEING Sensei to my students that I forgot that I was a student of KIMURA Dojo and my sVo Championship runs were a part of the KIMURA Dojo’s legacy!”

The crowd have built to an excited frenzy.

Crowd: “ONE MORE MATCH! ONE MORE MATCH! ONE MORE MATCH! ONE MORE MATCH! ONE MORE MATCH!”

Night: “You bet you’ll get one more match, I’M BACK FOR ONE MORE RUN! I’ve been preparing for this for the past 6 months day in and day out. I’ve gotten more reps in in that time than the whole last decade and I am confident to stand here in front of all of you and tell you that I am BACK to reclaim the sVo Championship! I will have my third reign and fulfill my Sensei’s vision!”

The crowd are on their feet for the sVo Hall of Famer, until suddenly ‘Viva Las Vegas’ by Metal Elvis hits the sound system and the crowd boo loudly as the ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign appears on the giant screen. Night looks towards the entrance ramp, a small sign of annoyance showing on his face at being interrupted, as Johnny ‘All Star’ Moretti steps out onto the top of the entrance ramp, flanked by the rest of Blood Money.

Anthony Moretti & Joe Barone proudly show off the Tag Team Championships on their shoulders, Junior Gambino flashes the TapOut Championship around his waist, but all Johnny Moretti has in his hands is a microphone as he stares angrily down towards Night in the ring.

Johnny Moretti: “Eleven Years…. You are right it was ELEVEN years since you were last here, whilst I have been here every day since the sVo returned, working my tail off to realise MY dreams….”

The crowd boo loudly, whilst Night listens intently in the ring, showing Moretti & the rest of Blood Money the respect that they didn’t show him.

Johnny Moretti: “In 2021 I accomplished as much as you did in your entire run in the sVo, capturing the pinnacle of this industry, the sVo Championship twice!”

More loud boos from the crowd, causing Johnny Moretti to eyeball them angrily whilst the rest of Blood Money gestures for them to be quiet.

Johnny Moretti: “In that year I had to scratch and claw my way to the top, I never had anything handed to me like you did! I had to stab my own best friend in the back in the Organised Chaos match just to get my first shot at the title! I had Cody Williams and Jon Page screw me out of that reign and I had to scratch and claw just to get another shot!”

The name Cody Williams gets a brief pop from the crowd, but more relentless boos towards Moretti and Blood Money.

Johnny Moretti: “You must have took too many shots to the head in that dojo of yours to think you can walk in here and get a shot at the title after eleven years! Vorheez is walking around saying I don’t get another shot as he holds the belt, we will see how that holds up in court, but if I don’t get a shot then no one does!”

Loud boos from the crowd as Night continues to listen patiently to the rantings of All Star.

Night: “Are you done, Johnny?”

The crowd perks up as Night raises the mic to his mouth – Moretti and Co continue to mouth off towards him and the crowd.

Night: “You know I never had a problem with you Johnny, and I’d say I was happy for you that you finally won the big one. But make no mistake about it, every action you take is a decision YOU MADE. If you felt like you had to betray Gunner to get the sVo Championship well that really says more about you than anyone. And if you’re going to get snarky to me I’ll remind you that you might have won two sVo Championships in 2021, but you couldn’t get the job done ONCE, while I was around.”

The crowd lets out a collective “OOOH” as Johnny fumes and lunges towards the ring, only to be held back by the rest of Blood Money.

Night: “But you’re right, Johnny, I can’t and wouldn’t just show up here after more than a decade and expect a match. I plan to show up here and prove myself in this ring, until I earn the right to take back my belt. STARTING WITH YOU! You can’t challenge Vorheez again for the belt? Well if I can’t beat you then I can’t either – so get down to this ring and let’s settle this right now!

The crowd pops as Night removes his jacket, tossing it and his tie over the turnbuckle. Johnny Moretti and the rest of Blood Money look a little stunned at the top of the entrance ramp at the challenge from the sVo legend, despite the numbers clearly being against him. Johnny Moretti looks back and forth into the faces of his fellow Blood Money members, and faints to make his way down the entrance ramp which draws big cheers from the fans…. Before waving Night off and making his way backstage!

The crowd boo loudly as Johnny Moretti angrily storms backstage, leaving the rest of Blood Money to taunt Night from the safety of the other side of the arena, before joining him in heading through the curtain.

The boos quickly fade away as Night is left alone in the middle of the ring, with the sVo legend signalling to the fans as the scene fades out.

Black Brothers vs Canadian Connection

BACKSTAGE
The Champ?

As the Black Brothers head up the entrance ramp after the dominating win and push their way through the curtain to the gorilla position, most of the backstage hands quickly scramble to get out of the way of the massive skull mask wearing behemoths.

However, one person does head towards the giants, and that one person has a microphone in her hand – Katie Smith.

Katie Smith: “Igor! Boris! Congratulations on bouncing back with a big win out there tonight! It must have been a real blow to lose your first match at Jackpot and finally lose the sVo Tag Team Championships, especially going into the match not at 100%?”

The Black Brothers look at each other for a few seconds, the surprise at being questioned spilling out from behind their masks, before looking back down at Katie Smith who looks tiny holding her microphone up to them for comment, a comment that is not forthcoming.

Katie Smith: “Ermm… I was wondering if you had any update on the status of the sVo Champion, your mentor William Vorheez? He seemed to signal that he was going to quit the sVo after he defeated Johnny Moretti at the Jackpot PPV before being interrupted by Night…. What is his status with the sVo right now?”

The Black Brothers look at each other again, before letting out a small chuckle and walking away from the petite reporter.

The cameras head backstage to the interview area, where Katie Smith is standing by with Hiro Ryuu, who is looking even more pumped up than normal.

Katie Smith: “Hiro! You are only moments away from a match against Kenneth D Williams. What are your thoughts going into this match?”

Hiro Ryuu: “KATIE! Did you watch Jackpot? Did you watch the start of the show tonight?”

The pretty red head looks a little confused by the question, before slowly nodding her head.

Katie Smith: “Well of course….”

Hiro Ryuu: “Then you saw Hiro’s all time hero, the man who inspired me to get into the wrestling business….. NIGHT!”

There is a pop from the crowd at mention of the sVo legend’s name.

Hiro Ryuu: “It was always Hiro’s dream to follow in the footsteps of my big hero…. Never did I dream that I could one day step into a sVo ring face to face with Night!”

Smith smiles along and the enthusiasm from Hiro Ryuu.

Hiro Ryuu: “So now when Hiro walks down to the match, he doesn’t just do it for himself, he doesn’t just did it for himself, he does it to move up the rankings and one step closer to the big dream match!!!”

Ryuu poses into the camera, as the scene fades out.

Kenneth D Williams vs Hiro Ryuu

RINGSIDE
Ryzing to the Top

The referee raises the arm of Hiro Ryuu in the air in victory, after the someone surprising victory over the former Las Vegas Champion Kenneth D Williams! Ryuu briefly celebrates the win, before rolling out under the bottom rope and making his way to the backstage area.

Kenneth D Williams slowly begins to get to his feet in the middle of the ring, with the fans giving a supportive cheer to the ‘Human Highlight Reel’, despite not getting the win tonight. However it seems as if Williams isn’t done as he calls over to Natasha Ortiz, the ring announcer, for the microphone.

Kenneth D Williams: “Well I won’t lie, I am pretty pissed off about that loss right there!”

Mixed reaction from the fans, most of them with Williams.

Kenneth D Williams: “The reason I am pissed off is that as good as Hiro Ryuu is, I know I am so much better! I was up there challenging for the sVo Championship, I was doing big things in the sVo until a coward attacked me backstage and threw me off track! I unveiled that coward at Jackpot, and I know what I need to do to get back on track, kick HUGO RYZING’s ass!”

There is a big pop from the crowd towards Kenneth D Williams, but the cheers don’t last for too long as “Keep on Swinging” by Rival Sons hits the sound system and the 6’5” Hugo Ryzing walks onto the top of the entrance ramp with a microphone in hand. Ryzing looks out at the sea of fans booing him loudly, before pulling his hood down and unveiling a big grin on his face.

Hugo Ryzing: “Are you serious right now? You think I attacked you? I barely know who you are!”

More loud boos from the crowd as Ryzing stares at Williams and laughs.

Hugo Ryzing: “I have said ever since I returned and plunged the knife into the back of Darwin Jones, that I was here for one reason and one reason only – to win the sVo Championship! I have been true to my word ever since, rising to 5th place in the rankings with win after win after win! No don’t get me wrong, if attacking you would bring me closer to that goal then I would do it in a heart beat! But what good would attacking you be? You’re a no body who can’t even win a match against Hiro Ryuu out here tonight!”

Williams looks furious as he raises the microphone to respond, however Ryzing cuts him off.

Hugo Ryzing: “No, No, No! The time for talking is done. Whilst I wouldn’t usually bother with you, you made a grave mistake in attacking me at the PPV in your little quest for revenge, so now I need to pay YOU a little lesson. You’re first piece of homework is to watch my match later tonight and watch how a real competitor wins a match….”

Ryzing disrespectfully tosses the microphone to one side and walks backwards through the curtain before Kenneth D Williams has the chance to response, as the fans boo loudly as the scene fades out.

Carny Sinclair vs. Jacob Izaz

BACKSTAGE
Whodunnit – He Done It

We head backstage to the interview area once again, where Katie Smith is standing by with Kenneth D Williams, the former Las Vegas Champion still dripping in sweat from his earlier match against Hiro Ryuu.

Katie Smith: “Kenny, thanks for joining me tonight. I know it’s a busy one for you. Now normally I would ask you about the match against Ryuu, but after the match you were involved in a verbal altercation with Hugo Ryzing, who claimed that he wasn’t the one who attacked you backstage a month or so ago to take you out of action. What do you make of this development?”

Williams angrily shakes his head.

Kenneth D Williams: “Well obviously Ryzing is a god damn liar! Anyone seriously believe this guy? He stabbed his own best friend in the back, a best friend who was fighting on behalf of his honour don’t forget! He clearly isn’t a man to be trusted! The fact that he came out to the ring and had the nerve to deny it and to insult me is just extra motivation for me when I finally get the chance to kick his head in!”

Katie Smith: “You seem very sure that it was Ryzing that was behind the attack on you…. Why?”

Kenneth D Williams: “I am 100% sure Katie…. But I can’t reveal my source. Now if you don’t mind, I have a match to scout….”

Williams walks away from the interview area as the scene fades out.

The Arrangement

The big screen flickers on, a graphic in the corner reading “LAST WEEK ON UPRISING” as we find ourselves backstage inside the office of sVo owner Jon Page…joined by Xander Azula!? The HOW Fighter has a wicked smile on his face as he confronts Page, his followers standing by his side as we notice the absence of Kyle McRae and British Hospitality.

Xander Azula: “It’s so good to see you again, Jon. I think it’s time we finally have our little discussion about my fight here in sVo…now that I’m contracted by the PWA to do so, after all.”

Jon nods in response, quite aware of the situation as a smirk of his own finally arises.

Jon Page: “Right, let’s get down to business then. Xander, since you’ve been fixing for a fight, and you’ve been so eager to really stick it to me…”

As if on cue, the door to the office opens, as the Empire step in…and immediately stare down Xander and his crew, much to Jon’s amusement.

Jon Page: “…my man Kyle McRae is more than willing to step up to the plate, to defend the honor of the Sanctioned VIOLENCE Organization. And, of course, if your Eternal Circle friends decide to get involved, British Hospitality will be more than happy to show them just that.”

Xander can’t help but chuckle at the situation he now finds himself in…and eventually extends a hand to the sVo owner.

Xander Azula: “You have yourself a deal, sir. Pleasure doing business with you.”

Jon stares down the Fighter, reluctant at first but soon shakes hands as the big screen cuts to static!

The current Las Vegas Champion Carny Sinclair seems to be calling the shots of his massive Russian bodyguard Reznikov, as he picks up ‘the Philly Flash’ and tosses him around like a ragdoll!

Officials are powerless to get between the two men, as Izaz bravely tries to fight back against the big man, only for Reznikov to power him up into the air and throw him head first into a nearby wall!

Sinclair finally seems content with the beating laid down to the man that defeated him earlier in somewhat of an upset, as he calls off the big man, allowing officials to swarm in and check on the condition of Izaz as Showdown heads to a commercial break!
